Take a Decade or More Off Your Age

Facelift Grand Rapids, MIA facelift can seem so…old school. After all, the first facelift is credited to a German surgeon in 1901. With all the ever-expanding list of possible procedures these days, people can forget just how effective a facelift is.

It’s worth remembering. A facelift with the skilled team at Elite Plastic Surgery can take from 10-15 years off your facial age.

What is a facelift?

Clinically known as rhytidectomy, a facelift removes excess fat, tightens underlying muscles, trims excess skin, and re-drapes the face and upper neck skin. The procedure simultaneously removes and tightens sagging skin, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, and gives the face a more contoured, youthful appearance.

A misnomer

The term “facelift” can create some misperceptions. Facelifts don’t address the entire face — they target the mid- and lower face and jowl area. Aging on the brows and the eyelids need to be corrected with a brow lift and eyelid surgery. Often, patients combine these procedures with their facelifts.

Facelift options

At Elite, our surgeons perform facelifts with different methods depending on the unique situation of each patient. Patients can opt to have full facelifts, sometimes known as traditional facelifts; or mini facelifts, which involve minimal incisions rather than the lengthy incisions of a full facelift.

What is a mini facelift?

A mini facelift helps improve the appearance of smile lines, jowls, and loose skin, but it provides less dramatic results versus a full facelift. The surgeon lifts and re-suspends the facial tissue using minimal, small incisions that are inconspicuous.

What is a full facelift?

In a full facelift, the incision begins at the temple behind the hairline and continues down in front of the ear, circles around the ear lobe, ending in the bottom hairline. The goal is to camouflage these incisions in the patient’s natural creases where possible. The surgeon repositions, tightens, and secures the facial tissue in its position with sutures and tissue glue. A traditional facelift requires longer incisions and a more involved recovery, but it can deliver impressive results that endure.
