MicroPeel Away Your Dull Skin

MicroPeel | Grand Rapids MIYour facial skin has a lot in common with the clear water of Lake Superior this time of year. Underneath that frozen layer of windswept ice is the crystal clear water all Michiganders know and love. On your face, underneath the dull layer of dead skin cells, clogged pores, dirt, oil, and the accumulations of whatever’s in the environment is vibrant, healthy skin just waiting to get its chance to shine.

At Elite Plastic Surgery, we believe in letting that bright, new skin out, so we offer the MicroPeel from SkinCeuticals to get rid of that outermost layer and reveal the healthier skin beneath.

What is a SkinCeuticals MicroPeel?

This isn’t like a typical chemical peel — the MicroPeel is a safe and effective three-step process that removes a micro-thin top layer of skin. This layer obstructs and blocks the healthier skin layers beneath. The MicroPeel is an in-office procedure that can be done over your lunch break. It is performed by Melissa Heys, our resident skin care specialist at Elite.

Here are the three steps in a MicroPeel:

  • Dermaplaning — This manual exfoliation technique uses a blade that is pulled across the facial skin at an angle. This removes surface debris, dead skin cells, fine hairs, and prepares the skin for the chemical peel, which is step two.
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peel — This superficial chemical peel lightly resurfaces the skin. It removes the outer epidermis and stimulates collagen remodeling to improve hyperpigmentation, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improve skin texture and skin imperfections. Depending on your individual skin issues, you can choose between varying strengths of glycolic acid (20%, 30%, or 50%) and salicylic acid (20% or 30%).
  • Cryogenic Therapy — After manual clearing of any remaining clogged pores, we move on to the anti-inflammatory, antibacterial freezing step three. This uses dry-ice freezing therapy, which calms and cools inflamed, irritated skin and kills bacteria in the hair follicles, which lead to breakouts.

After the three steps of the MicroPeel are complete, Melissa finishes your session by applying anti-aging lotion to fit your skin type.

After your MicroPeel, you may have some slight redness for a day or so and minor skin flaking over the next few days. We recommend a series of 4-6 MicroPeels to really get your skin looking and feeling great.
