What Is Juvéderm XC?

Juvéderm XC is a type of dermal filler made with hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already produces to help keep skin hydrated and plump.

What makes this filler unique is the way it’s made. Using something called Hylacross™ technology, the hyaluronic acid is turned into a gel that holds its shape under the skin, which helps the results look more natural.

It also contains a small amount of lidocaine, a numbing agent that helps make the injection process more comfortable. So not only does it work well, it’s made with your comfort in mind, too.

What Is Juvéderm XC Used For?

We routinely use Juvéderm XC to correct a variety of cosmetic concerns. The relatively small particle sizes of hyaluronic acid in this product are great for filling in smile lines and marionette lines. Juvéderm XC can also add volume back into deflated lips and cheeks.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Juvéderm XC?

Juvéderm Wyoming MIMost adults who are concerned about the signs of aging they are experiencing are good candidates for Juvéderm XC dermal filler. The hyaluronic acid in this product is organic. Because of this, there is little risk of an allergic reaction to the filler.

It’s important to us that patients get the outcome they desire. Before performing Juvéderm XC treatment, we perform a thorough consultation and skin assessment to make sure it’s the right fit.

Dermal filler treatment is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and you may need to postpone your injections if you have an active infection or acne flare-up in the treatment area.

When Will I See Results After Juvéderm Injections?

One of the primary benefits of dermal filler treatment vs. neuromodulators like Botox is that you notice the effects immediately. That means we can see how the filler looks as we’re administering it, and we can gently massage and manipulate it to get your desired look.

How Long Do The Results of Juvéderm Last?

The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm XC naturally breaks down over time. This is a good thing because this transition mimics the natural aging process.

Many patients notice that their results last about a year. However, every person metabolizes the product differently. We can schedule your retreatment before the filler wears off to enhance the results or to maintain your current appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Filler Injections Hurt?

We perform dermal filler injections using a cannula as well as a standard needle. The cannula is flexible and lets us insert the product with fewer injections.

Also, since it has no sharp tip, the cannula is less likely to accidentally nick a blood vessel. Patients also tend to experience less bruising and tenderness after treatment.

The Juvéderm XC formulation contains lidocaine, which has a subtle numbing effect as soon as the product is inserted. If you are concerned about discomfort, please let us know during your consultation so we can discuss additional strategies, like cold packs or topical numbing cream, to be used during your treatment.

How Many Juvéderm Treatments Will I Need?

Most people only need one treatment session to see a visible difference. From there, it really depends on your goals. Some patients are happy with a single visit, while others choose to come back for a bit more volume or balance after seeing their initial results settle in.

Many people also schedule follow-up appointments once or twice a year, depending on how their body processes the filler and how subtle or noticeable they want the results to be.

How Does Juvéderm Compare to Restylane?

We offer both Juvéderm XC and Restylane dermal fillers because the slight differences may make one product more appropriate than the other for specific goals.

Like Juvéderm XC, Restylane is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, but it differs slightly in structure and concentration. The hyaluronic acid particles in Juvéderm XC are cross-linked and more tightly bound, so the concentration of the acid is higher.

Restylane has slightly larger, more loosely bound particles, which makes it a better option for areas with thicker skin or when you’re looking for more dramatic volume, like fuller lips or cheeks.

Can Juvéderm Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Yes. Our patients often combine injectables such as Juvéderm XC and Botox for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Is There Any Downtime After Juvéderm Injections?

Not much at all. Most people go right back to their day after treatment. You might notice a little swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but it’s usually mild and fades within a few days.

Can I Wear Makeup After My Treatment?

Yes, but it’s best to give your skin a little break. We usually recommend waiting at least four to six hours before applying makeup. That gives the injection sites time to settle and lowers the chance of irritation. After that, you’re good to go with your usual routine.

Can I Get Juvéderm Before a Big Event?

Absolutely, but be sure to plan ahead. We recommend scheduling your treatment at least one to two weeks before any big event to give your skin time to settle and look its best.

How Do I Know If I Need Juvéderm or Botox?

It depends on the kind of lines or changes you’re noticing. Juvéderm adds volume to smooth deeper lines and lift areas like the cheeks or lips. Botox softens expression lines by relaxing the muscles underneath. We’ll help you figure out which one, or a combination, would be best.

What If I Don’t Like the Results?

That’s one of the benefits of using a hyaluronic acid filler like Juvéderm – it’s not permanent, and it can be adjusted. If you feel like something’s not quite right, we can talk through your options. In some cases, we can dissolve the filler with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. But in most cases, a little tweaking is all it takes.

What Age Should I Start Considering Fillers?

There’s no “right” age. It comes down to your goals and how your skin is changing. Some people start in their late 20s or early 30s to get ahead of volume loss or support facial structure. Others wait until they notice more visible signs of aging. Whenever you’re ready to talk about it, we’re here to help you make a plan.
