Clear Up Those Blood Vessels with ClearScan

ClearScan, Grand Rapids, MI

One real annoying part of aging is the increase in visible blood vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, and other areas of redness on our skin. At Elite Plastic Surgery, we can put laser energy to work clearing those annoyances and you’ll be ready to accept that friend’s invitation for some sailing on Lake Michigan this summer. It’s called ClearScan, and it’s a great way to get the red and purple out, so to speak.

What is ClearScan?

The ClearScan laser we use for these treatments is made by Sciton, manufacturer of a variety of lasers used in aesthetic treatments. The ClearScan laser energy wavelengths are set to match the color of the vessels we want to erase. ClearScan laser treatment isn’t painful and there isn’t any recovery.

How does a ClearScan session go?

The first step is to discuss the areas we will be treating. Then your Elite aesthetician, Stephanie Nussbaum, sets the ClearScan wavelengths to match the vessels. The ClearScan laser delivers short pulses of laser energy onto the treatment areas. The energy is absorbed by the blood in the vessels and it converts into heat energy. This raises the temperature of the blood, making the blood coagulate. This causes the vessel to collapse and seal. This immediately lessens the appearance of the vessel, and it continues to decrease in appearance over the next few weeks as the body scavenges the unused vein and removes it.

What skin conditions can ClearScan treat and where on the body?

  • Facial veins
  • Broken capillaries
  • Telangiectasia
  • Spider veins
  • Rosacea
  • Redness

Our ClearScan treatments are especially effective on broken capillaries on the sensitive facial skin, but we use this treatment on the neck, chest, and legs, as well.

What happens after my ClearScan treatment?

The most common after-effect is discoloration of the vein and bruising or purplish discoloration around the treated area. This will resolve within a few days. Initially, the treated vessels will likely have a “cat scratch” appearance for the first 1-2 days. The area may be a little sensitive to the touch. All of this will resolve in 2-3 days and your body will keep on the task of fully absorbing the now-unused vessels.
