What to Expect During Recovery After a Brow Lift

At Elite Plastic Surgery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, our board-certified plastic surgeons guide patients through every step, from consultation to recovery. Here’s what to expect after your procedure.

Swelling and Bruising

Swelling and bruising are expected after a brow lift, which may extend down to the cheeks and around the eyes. This typically peaks within the first few days and improves over seven to 10 days.

Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling, even while sleeping. Using cold compresses as directed by your surgeon can also help manage swelling in the first few days.

Numbness and Itching

It’s normal to experience some numbness or itching as the nerves heal. If you had a traditional brow lift, numbness along the incision site can last for several months, often followed by an itching sensation as the feeling returns.

For those who had an endoscopic brow lift, there may still be some temporary numbness but less itching compared to the traditional method. These sensations typically fade over time.

Incision Healing

With a traditional brow lift, the incision is hidden within the hairline, but some patients may experience temporary hair thinning near the area. Hair growth should return to normal within weeks or months.

If you had an endoscopic brow lift, the incisions are smaller and less noticeable, with minimal scarring.

When Can You Resume Normal Activities?

Most people feel well enough to return to work within seven to 10 days, but healing times vary. It’s important to avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise for at least four weeks.

Light activities like walking are fine, but you should postpone anything that significantly raises your heart rate until your surgeon clears you.

When Will You See Full Results?

Over the first few weeks, your results will become more refined, but the final outcome typically takes a few months to appear. The skin and tissues need time to settle into their new position, and subtle improvements will continue as swelling completely subsides.

Once healed, your brow will look naturally lifted, rested, and refreshed.
